Myofascial Trigger Points
What are Myofascial Trigger Points in the body? Did you know they mimic certain conditions like ringing in the ears, tension headaches, heel spurs, even upper molar toothaches...
Trigger points are those nasty painful lumpy things you find in tight muscles. The fascia tightens up around the muscle fibers and squeezes it into a lump, at this point it doesn't have much of a blood supply, its like the muscle in that spot is suffocating. We need free flowing blood for muscle tissue to feel good.
What is Fascia? Well you know the white stuff in a steak, that is the fibrous tissue that holds little tiny muscle fibers together to make a whole muscle. There are also larger portions of fascia under our skin like a cheese cloth and in between our muscle groups.
Do you experience pain behind the eyes? Ringing in the ears? Pain in a Question mark pattern on the side of your head? What you think is Tennis Elbow or even Sciatica? Maybe doctors have told you that you have Arthritis in the knee, or that you have Angina (pain in the heart area).
These are all active Trigger Points in the muscles mimicking these conditions.
For example: I have an elderly patient that was being treated for Angina and was taking Nitroglycerin for it, and I got rid of a trigger point on her back just at the bottom of the shoulder blade and a little towards the spine. This took several treatments. After it was released, I advised her that she needs to see her Doctor again, and this Doctor needs to re-examine her. She did and she got off the Nitroglycerin, her Doctor was amazed that she didn't actually have Angina and had no knowledge of Myofascial Trigger Points, she has been fine ever since.
So if you are experiencing any of these symptoms, book yourself in for a massage
and I will assess your symptoms and see what I can do for you
Take Care of your Health, Take Care of YOU, You deserve it! :)
By stretching every day we can melt away the fascia that builds up overnight as we sleep. When we don't stretch it builds up more and more over time reducing our proper range of motion.
